Questions

How fit do I need to be?

We don't cater to just the seasoned athlete (the hard-rider), but we do usually plan trips that require one to be more than simply fit and healthy; one needs to be "up" for the challenge...willing to go that little bit extra to reap the joys of the view or the descent. All trips provide the opportunity for alternate routes on most cycling days, thus every level of cyclist is satisfied.

What happens on a day's ride?

Cycleventures provides each cyclist with a detailed route description to highlight your journey and 1:200,000 scale maps (e.g. Michelin). Each day you will have the opportunity to look over proposed routes during our map session and choose your own route if you choose. You pedal at a pace that suits you, with whomever you wish. We discourage the large "group" approach.

Can I get assistance on the road?

Cycleventures provides a support vehicle and if you should encounter a problem on the road, either of the two guides can assist you. Throughout the trip we transport your luggage and will provide you with a lift if necessary. Each day is not a competition; we're there to lend a hand and provide backup. Need a jump-start on the day? We're there to take you out a few kilometers and take the long side off of a particular day. We almost pamper you!

Are some trips more difficult than others?

Our trips are rated from Level 1 to Level 3. There is a trip for you whether you are a novice or a hard rider. All trips offer at least one hill! Wind is occasionally evident...but at your back. Check our Skill Levels.

What kind of bike do I need?

Whether you own a road bike or hybrid bike, ensure it is well maintained and bring it on the tour. Experience has taught us that people are much more comfortable and feel safer on their own bikes. NOTE: For trips within Canada and on some European tours, bike rental can be arranged.

How does my bike travel?

Cycleventures has always encouraged people to bring their own bikes. To do this requires patience on your part but the comfort and security that comes with being on your own bike, especially in unfamiliar terrain, is well worth the experience. Our pre-departure information Before You Take-Off explains the simple process required to prepare your bike for the flight.

Can I get assistance at the airport?

We will meet you on the arrival day (as stated in the itinerary) at the airport closest to where your trip begins and arrange to transfer you to your hotel. At the end of the trip, we transfer everyone to the airport and help with the bikes, so you can avoid last minute confusion. Other companies often require you to get yourself to the hotel or departure airport at your cost. If you plan to arrive earlier or stay on after the tour we can book your hotel.

What kind of hotels do you stay in ?

Cycleventures selects only quality accommodation at two, three and four star hotels and inns that offer rooms with private facilities and comfortable amenities. Your luggage is moved each day in our support van and waiting for your in your room each day. The hotels provide excellent cuisine typical of the region. All breakfasts are included, as are a majority of dinners. You'll relax at the end of each day in very pleasant surroundings. Our choice of hotels compares very favourably with other bike tours.

If I need more information?

Cycleventures provides thorough pre-departure information, which covers trip and bicycle travel topics. Our day-to-day itinerary gives you a clear picture of the proposed tour. Prior to setting out on your first day, you'll be requested to attend an Orientation / Briefing session. More questions? We'd be delighted to phone you or if you are in the Vancouver region, to meet you personally.

If I need to book a flight or inquire about insurance?

Cycleventures is ready to help you plan your trip. We'll give you the details to help you book your flights. We are also available to discuss appropriate Travel and Medical Insurance coverage. Please refer to these concerns in our Terms and Conditions then call us if you need more information.

Aside from great cycling what else can I expect?

Each Cycleventures tour includes some special features and events. This might be a visit to a local vineyard, a guided city walking tour, a cocktail party or an epic picnic. We'll often have special awards during our evening meals.

Are CV tours worth it?

Cycleventures compares favourably to other bike touring companies. On a dollar per night basis, Cycleventures leads the way. We take you to some of the same regions as many other touring companies, usually for two weeks and for far less money. Be sure to compare our prices and services with others. You'll see what we are talking about.

Are CV cyclists enthusiastic?

Annually, 75 percent of our cyclists are returning customers. We hope you can join us so that you can experience for yourself what it is that keeps so many coming back to Cycleventures year after year.
